East – Black and White is a hand-pulled silk screen print on white archival BFK Rives 100% cotton rag paper, imported from France, with watermark and deckled edge, 250 gsm. From a numbered edition of 45.

Printed at Malaspina Printmakers in Vancouver, BC, each print is signed in pencil by the artist at lower right, numbered at lower left, and embossed with the blind stamp of Rapture Editions.

Created in collaboration with Rapture Editions, East reflects Ola Volo’s Eastern European heritage alongside her creative home in Eastern Canada. The work portrays a strong, stoic female figure through bold linework and balanced geometric forms. She appears as a queen, warrior, and mentor, holding a bird, a symbol rooted in Eastern folklore and often associated with the human soul. At her feet, flowing water references the St. Lawrence River, tying the piece to themes of culture, history, and renewal.
