This card is a little love letter to my inner kid

I’ve been obsessed with pop-up books for as long as I can remember — the way paper can become architecture, the way an image suddenly has volume, shadow, and surprise. It feels like an old-school kind of magic… and also the perfect limitation. I’ve always loved working inside limitations because they force you to invent new solutions and push an illustration further than it wants to go.

So I created Winter Wonderland specifically as a pop-up piece — designed from the start to stand up, fold down, and come alive in your hands.

The main character is a winter queen inspired by my childhood in Kazakhstan, where “Santa” was Ded Moroz, and the figure beside him was Snegurochka — a Snow Maiden, a queen made of snow. I’ve always loved the tenderness in that story: this being of winter longing for warmth, caught between the beauty of cold and the pull of human feeling. It’s delicate, and strangely hopeful — which is exactly what winter can feel like.

Each card is printed in rich colour and hand-assembled in Canada, so every single one carries that crafted, sculptural quality you only get from something made by hand.
